Worthing flower show a success

Worthing Horticultural Society held the show on Saturday at Offington Park Methodist Church, in South Farm Road.

On the day, entries in the show’s competition were judged by Jean Griffin from BBC Radio Sussex’s gardening programme.

She commented on the high standard of the entries, which was also noticed by Worthing Horticultural Society’s publicity officer, Anne Locke.

She said: “We were amazed and delighted with the amount and the quality of all the entries at the spring show.

“The hall was ablaze with colour from the narcissi and the pot plants, especially the tulips and hyacinths.

“There were also excellent entries in the cookery classes and all-time records in the children’s class of a decorated cup cake.”

The main prize winners included Alisdair MacCulloch for the most points in the flower and plant classes, and also the best exhibit in show for his narcissi.

Jayne Pumfrey won the best vase of narcissi, Jenny Leach won the best exhibit in the flower arranging classes and Pam Angel won the best exhibit in the cookery classes for her coffee and walnut cake.

The winners in the children’s class were Jenson Hayes for ages six to eight, Sophie Cole for ages eight to nine and Alex Pulford for ages 10 to 11.
