Worthing gunman on the loose

A MAN who went to burgle a Worthing flat armed with a shot-gun is still on the loose.

Police are desperate to trace the man who entered a flat in Shelley Road in the early hours of Monday, January 26.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava, was one of two who allegedly went into the flat before jumping from a first floor window.

One man was arrested at the scene, but the gun-man has not been found and police have warned he poses a danger.

Detective constable Mark Williams said: "We are looking at a person who is capable of using a firearm.

"He clearly poses a threat to those he comes in contact with."

Det con Williams said police arrived as the burglary was happening and as a result the incident didn't "escalate".

He has appealed to the gun-man's friends and family who might suspect something or can tell police who the man is.

One-armed James Deacon, 28, of Tristram Close, Sompting, appeared at Worthing Magistrates' Court on Friday, January 30, in connection with the burglary.

He did not enter a plea to the charge of aggravated burglary and was remanded in custody until he appears at Chichester Crown Court on April 23.
