A Worthing man taking part in Movember is competing to see who can grow the longest moustache – him or two horses.

Stuart Rodd, 38, is pitting his top lip hairs against those of horses Mr Magee and Archie to raise funds for men’s cancer charities.

Horses are able to grow moustaches but usually have them cut off before they become too long and get in their mouths.

Stuart, a horse rider, from Cowper Road, Worthing, said he wanted to do something different for Movember.

He said: “You’ve got things like Race for Life, Moon Walk and other things to raise money for cancer charities.

“But Movember brings attention to the cancers many men suffer from, like prostate cancer.

“I wanted to do my bit and also do something a little different.”

The horses, which are based at Hillview Riding Stables, in Hangleton Lane, Ferring, have been given a small head start, though, because it takes them longer to grow their facial hair.

But the animals can grow thick moustaches up to seven inches long.

Judges will decide the winner on who has the most improved facial hair by the end of December.

So far, Stuart has raised more than £600 and has set up a Facebook group to promote the event.
