At 5.45pm on Friday (December 18) police were called to the A23 Old Steine, Brighton, near its junction with Edward Street, where a car had mounted a pavement and crashed into railings.

The driver of the silver Ford Puma, a 48-year-old man from Worthing, appeared to have suffered a medical episode.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where sadly he later died.

The road was closed for more than two hours while the incident was investigated.
