The Come Dine With Me ‘Champion of Champions’ semi-final tonight will feature Worthing resident and former contest winner Brendan Shannon-Thomas.
The first of its kind, the high-pressure cooking tournament will see 12 of the most stand-out finalists over the last ten years compete for the overall crown.
Also, to add a little spice, the show’s quick-witted narrator Dave Lamb will be stepping in front of the camera for the very first time.
Channel 4’s promo went viral on social media after it unveiled the man behind the narration, Dave.
Brendan first appeared on the show on March 17 last year, and after a 12-hour shoot in his Eriswell Road home, he walked away with the £1,000 cash prize.
“They contacted over 200 winners from previous shows over the last ten years,” said the 46-year-old.
In the last week, contestants have put their culinary skills to the test in hopes they will make it to Friday’s final.
But there is a twist...
“They asked for all of our recipes so everyone planned their menus, but ten minutes before we were supposed to cook they changed all the dishes around, so it became a real challenge,” he said.
Not only that, the cooks will have to serve their dishes to Dave and Michelin star chef Glynn Parnell for critique.
The Brighton hotel manager said: “It was awful. I found it really difficult. I went in with my three-course menu and in ten minutes it was changed.”
Tonight’s episode was filmed in a country house in Sheffield with a butler on hand.
Brendan has been a fan of the show since it started back in 2006 and decided to give it a whirl last year.
He said: “I had a casting interview and they came to my house in Worthing.
“They filmed me at the butchers and fishmongers because I wanted to get everything local but they didn’t show that part.
“It’s so much pressure and so intense. In my kitchen I had five crew members and they get a 12-hour filming day into one hour of TV.”
Brendan said he got along with his three fellow contestants and has since formed friendships with two of them.
He will be joined by family and friends at the Rose and Crown in Rowlands Road tonight to watch the show on the big screen.
If you want to find out if Brendan has made it to Friday’s final, watch Come Dine With Me on Channel 4 to at 5pm.
