Worthing men take part in triathlon challenge for Chestnut Tree House

Ross Preston and his two friends, Paul Howell and Paul Richards, took part in the Blenheim Triathlon, in Oxfordshire on Sunday (June 4).

Speaking before the event Ross, of Lansdowne Road, said he and his friends were motivated by the challenge of the triathlon and raising funds for a charity they admire.

“We’re getting to the age when it’s good to have a challenge and exercise and get fitter.

“The inspiration was to raise money for a local charity, and the more we’ve learned about Chestnut Tree House, the more we admire what they do,” said Ross, 34.

Because of their fund-raising efforts, the group was invited to the hospice, near Arundel, to see how it provides care to children.

Ross added: “They invited us for a look around, and the first thing you notice is it doesn’t look like a hospice – it’s such a colourful, vibrant place, and we were able to see the great work they do.”

The Blenheim Triathlon involved a 750-metre open-water swim, followed by a 20 kilometre bike ride and then a five kilometre run.

It is regarded as one of the most scenic triathlons in England.

The group hopes to raise, or exceed, £1,500.
