Sharon Liley bought The Nook Nursery, in The Glen, in 1999 when the previous owners retired but has now decided to go back to university to train as a teacher.

Her eldest son Gareth had gone there as a child and now his own son, two-year-old Emrys, attends.

“Our son attended The Nook Nursery when he was just three years old and we loved it so much that we took it over when the previous owner retired,” explained Sharon.

“That was 15 years ago and we have improved and developed the nursery every year. It has always been, and will remain, a small but very well-equipped and up-to-date pre-school.”

Gareth married a qualified child carer, Alice, who was working as a nanny in Hayward’s Heath. She will now be taking over at The Nook in September and upgrading it to suit working families, with new free entitlement hours.

Sharon said: “My daughter-in-law is about to take the reins as manager but I am not ready to retire just yet.

“This year, I graduated from Brighton University with a BA Hons in early years education and next year I will complete my professional teacher training.

“The Nook has many exciting plans for the future, linking with similar day care settings in New Zealand and India, helping our children to develop physically to be fit and healthy.

“The focus will always be on the family and for each child to be cherished. We provide a real alternative to large day care settings and to early years in mainstream primary schools. Sometimes, small is beautiful.”
