If the funding bid is successful, the fabulous project More Over 50s, More Active, More Often in Sussex will be improved and expanded.

The sessions, including walking football, walking netball and community gardening, are held at Worthing Leisure Centre, in Shaftesbury Avenue. The Lottery funds would help South Downs Leisure to put on extra sessions, pay for coaching staff and provide more equipment.

Alan Ford, marketing manager, said: “We are bringing the games that people loved when they were younger back to their lives, as they are played at a slower pace.

“With these activities, and the gardening, too, participants will testify to how much fitter and healthier they feel and that they also no longer feel socially isolated.

“By voting for us, you could just be extending someone’s life. The money would be fantastic to help more over 50s do so much more good in the local community. We want more walking football, more walking netball and more community gardening, more often, in Sussex.”

The Big Lottery Fund, ITV and the National Lottery have teamed up to give communities the chance to decide how £3million of National Lottery funding will make a difference in their area.

Also competing in the ITV Meridian West region are West Wight Sports Centre Trust in Freshwater with C.O.O.K - Creating Opportunities in Our Kitchen, Pound for Pound Training Ground CIC in Southampton with Fighting Fit, Footprints Project in Poole with Life Works, and Brighton and Hove Food Partnership with Surplus Food Network.

The three projects with the most public votes will receive grants of up to £50,000 to help organisers develop their work and further improve people’s lives.
