Worthing pensioner's happy ending

AN on-line hiccup resulted in a happy ending for a disabled pensioner involved in a parking fine row.

Barrie Hay, 72, and his wife, of Ladydell Road, Worthing, were passengers in the car of their Hove friend Tony Knibbs, 67, when the vehicle was left in a Marine Parade disabled parking bay on November 9.

There was an indecipherable parking-suspended notice on the post, and when the three returned a little later, they found their car had been ticketed.

Mr Knibbs appealed against the 35 penalty charge, but was told there were no grounds for it being cancelled.

He paid the penalty on-line, but, on enquiring later, he was told it had not arrived.

It had still not arrived by the weekend, so Worthing Council decided to scrap the fine altogether.

"Justice was done, no matter how it was achieved," said a delighted Mr Knibbs.
