Worthing Pier awarded second place in national competition

Only Cromer pier, in Norfolk, stood in the way of Worthing and the top spot, with Eastbourne and Llandudno tying for third.

Councillor Bryan Turner, executive member for regeneration at Worthing Borough Council, said: “We are delighted Worthing Pier has placed second, of course it’s a pity we didn’t come first, but we’re pleased with the acknowledgement, especially after the extensive refurbishment of the Southern Pavilion in 2013. We’re very proud to be able to provide a clean and safe environment for families and visitors to enjoy.”

The NPS runs a yearly competition to find the most impressive piers in the country.

Its 800 members are invited to nominate the pier they feel most deserving, encouraging them to look back at the pier’s news and history.

The only stipulations are that it must be open for business and previous winning piers in the last five years are not eligible – Penarth, Clevedon, Swanage, Weston-Super-Mare Grand and Boscombe.
