Worthing Pier closed due to high winds

GALES of around 50mph have closed Worthing Pier this morning until further notice (Wednesday, October 23).

Foreshore inspectors from Worthing Beach Office took the decision this morning, but will re-open it as soon as the winds calm.

Senior foreshore inspector Graham Cherrett said: “It is not unusual to close the pier, but it is blowing a severe gale, which is between 47 and 54mph at the moment.

“We will open it up to the public again as soon as possible.”

High winds also caused delays to the train schedule this morning, as a fallen tree at Durrington blocked the line.
