THANKS to money from Worthing’s former mayor, a pregnancy charity is able to expand its service.

Ann Barlow presented a cheque for £3,097 to the Acorn Pregnancy Counselling Centre following her mayoral year in which she chose Acorn as one of her charities.

The cheque was presented to trustees at Acorn’s counselling centre in Stanford Square, Worthing.

The donation comes at an important time for Acorn as it experiences an increase in demand for its services.

Chairman, Dr Rob Ferguson, said: “We are delighted our year as one of the mayor’s charities has worked so well for us.

“We have seen an increase in clients coming to us for both unplanned pregnancy and pregnancy loss counselling. Our work in secondary schools has also expanded, with three teams of volunteers now regularly giving lessons in secondary schools. This donation will help us make sure the teams are properly resourced, and allow us to create an extra counselling room at the centre to cope with the increased demand.”

Clients can visit the centre during drop-in times, can call for an appointment, or are referred to the centre by GPs. For details, call 01903 823893.
