Worthing roadworks moving forward '“ disabled group frustrated

APART from an initial consultation complaint, the latest town centre road improvements seem to be progressing satisfactorily.

The southern section of Chapel Road is closed for a projected four/five weeks for pavement widening, and after a week the work is already ahead of schedule.

A county council spokesman said diversions for buses and other traffic were working well, but much depended on the weather for an early completion of the project.

Worthing Access and Mobility Group had claimed it was not consulted about plans for the temporary relocation of the taxi rank.

Group secretary Norah Fisher said she was disappointed not have been consulted on the initial idea of using Chatsworth Road, where it was more difficult to enter a wheelchair-accessible vehicle from the pavements in that road.

But the council changed its mind and switched the taxi rank to Liverpool Gardens, which is proving more acceptable to wheelchair-users.
