Worthing Scouts reach a new peak in their jamboree bid

THREE intrepid teenagers have scaled new heights as they fundraise in a bid to get to next year’s World Scout Jamboree.

The three 8th Worthing Scouts and Explorers – Hannah Mitchell, 13, Jonathan Starr, 15, and Hannah Walker ,14 – have to raise £1,700 each to fund their places at the 2015 jamboree, which will be held in Japan.

Their 3,560ft sponsored climb was part of a trip organised by the 8th Worthing Scout Troop.

Andy Price, 8th Worthing Mountain Leader, said: “It was a great trip and the Scouts were a credit to themselves and to Scouting. They learned a lot about mountains and how to work as a team.”

As well as fundraising, they are attending training camps and taking part in other activities to equip them with the skills and knowledge they will need for the trip. The jamboree is a global gathering of Scouts and Guides from more than 150 countries. Between July 28 and August 8, 2015, some 3,500 Scouts and Guides from across the UK will be joining 30,000 others from around the world in Kirara-hama, Japan, for the event, with the theme ‘Wa’, which means ‘spirit of unity’.
