Worthing sea search: coastguard gives update following hours-long operation

The coastguard has provided an update after an hours-long search and rescue operation in Worthing.

Yesterday, a spokesman for HM Coastguard said emergency services received a report of clothing being found on the beach just before 11am today (December 10) that prompted the Coastguard and Sussex Police to coordinate a search.

Coastguard teams from Shoreham, Littlehampton and Newhaven were deployed, as well as the search and rescue helicopter from Lydd.

The Littlehampton lifeboat had also been sent.

As of around 7.30pm yesterday, the coastguard provided an update.

It said: “A search launched after the discovery of clothes on a beach at Worthing earlier today (10 December) has now been suspended pending further information.

“The search was extensive throughout the day but nothing untoward has been found and was suspended this evening, pending further information.”
