Jordan Tizzard, 20, of Goldsmith Road, Worthing, ran the 13-mile distance raising £215 to help fund a range of development projects taking place in Ghana.

Jordan will head out to Ghana on June 27, where he will work in an orphanage, teach children and help build a library before he returns on August 28.

He said: “I got on really well, the weather was pretty much perfect.

“I want to make a difference, really. I want to experience different cultures and I want to get out there and help.”

Originally, Jordan had planned to complete the run with his friend Chloe Leggatt, 21. However, she was forced to pull out due to the amount of university work she had. Jordan said Chloe hoped to complete the run in the summer to raise funds for a charity trip to Machu Picchu, in Peru, in aid of the Association for International Cancer Research.

With the help of personal trainer Andy Strong, Jordan was able to complete the distance in one hour, 34 minutes – more than 40 minutes quicker than he expected.

“Andy came to Ye Olde House at Home, in Broadwater Street, where I work, and noticed my donation box. We got talking and brainstormed some fundraising ideas and he said he could help with the run. He gave me free training,” said Jordan.

“I was running about twice a week for six to eight weeks. I could already do about five miles and I added on to that.”

Jordan has funded his flights and vaccinations himself, meaning that almost all of the money raised goes to the development projects in Ghana.

Jordan said: “It’s the first time I’ve done anything like this and I’m really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a good experience.

“It’s a very good feeling knowing that you are making a difference.”
