Worthing students' success fundraising for mental health charity Heads On

The Worthing school has raised £500 to help improve the waiting area at a mental health clinic for children and young people.

Students from Davison CE High School for Girls, which is located in Selbourne Road, have been learning about the importance of good mental health at their regular assemblies.

Staff from Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team and the trust’s Charity, Heads On, have been talking to the girls about how they can protect their mental health and what to do if they think they need a bit of extra help.

The students were so inspired by the talk that they decided to donate the £500 raised at their recent dress down, or ‘mufti’ day, to the Trust’s CAMHS clinic, which is based at Worthing Hospital.

Nimmie Bunyard, the school’s community manager, said: “‘Davison CE High School are pleased to have worked with the charity Heads On to help promote awareness and understanding of mental health issues.

“We are delighted to have raised funds to support the CAHMS Unit at Worthing Hospital”.

Maddy Roberts, an assistant psychologist at Sussex Partnership, and one of the team members who visited the school to give the mental health talks, said: “We are extremely grateful and inspired by how much the Davison pupils have raised. Being an old Davison pupil myself, I know how much care and effort is put into projects and fundraising to help others.

“The money the school has raised will go towards new books, games, wall art, music and toys for the waiting area of our clinic at Worthing Hospital. This will all help to make the waiting area a more comfortable and relaxing environment for the young people and families we see.”

Lucy Knowles from Heads On explained: ‘This is a great start to CAMHS fundraising campaign to promote a much nicer and less clinical waiting area for our local children. We very much hope to work with Davison’s school and other local schools in the future.”
