Worthing teenager seriously injured and girl killed in Capel collision

The collision occurred between the Clark’s Green roundabout and the Kirdford railway bridge, which crosses the A24, at Capel when the collision took place.

Police were called shortly after 10am on Sunday, with the collision involving a silver Ford Fiesta and grey Seat Ibiza.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 27-year-old woman, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old girl from Epsom, who was a passenger in the Seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A second passenger, a 17-year-old girl, also from Epsom, was taken to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.

Police said her condition is being described as critical.

They added the driver of the Seat, an 18-year-old man from Worthing, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries and his condition has been described as stable.

Three ambulance crews, an air ambulance, an air ambulance road vehicle, the Heart Team and a number of paramedic cars attended the incident.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance said:“Two patients were taken to St George’s Hospital. One was an 18-year-old man with chest, back and pelvic injuries. Another patient was taken to East Surrey Hospital with hip and ankle injuries.”

Police are now appealing for witness.

Detective Sergeant Gary Wright from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “I would appeal to anybody who was travelling on the A24 in either direction on Sunday night to get in touch if you saw this collision or either of these vehicles prior to it.”
