Worthing woman charged with drink-driving

Ashley Baldwin, 49, of Grand Avenue, was arrested in Montague Street, Worthing, at 10.45pm on June 1 – the first day of Operation Dragonfly, the force’s month-long campaign to tackle drink and drug-driving across the county.

She was initially spoken to by officers because one of her car headlights wasn’t working. She will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on September 9.

Superintendent Jane Derrick, the head of the roads policing unit, said: “We warned everyone that we would not tolerate motorists driving after drinking or taking drugs but clearly some people do not listen to warnings.

“We will continue to catch and arrest drink and drug drivers throughout the month. If you are considering getting behind the wheel you are making a choice of whether or not to put your life and the lives of other people in danger.

“The answer is simple - drink or drive.”

A 48-year-old woman, also from Worthing, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving offences, before being released on bail while officers carry out further inquiries.
