A PROFESSIONAL hula hooper has set a new world record for hula hooping upside down.

Cabaret and burlesque artist, China Olver, 28, of Station Road, Worthing, is better known by stage name, Chi Chi Revolver.

She managed an impressive 112 rotations in one minute while suspended from a trapeze. The feat was filmed in March and sent to Guinness World Records for verification.

China said: “Guinness have quite a few records involving hula hoops but they contacted me because they wanted to create a new one. It’s a completely new record, so I haven’t broken one but as it’s quite specialised I’m not sure it will be broken. I got an envelope through in the post with the certificate and it says that I am officially amazing so I was very excited.”

The initial plan was to set a record for the longest time hula hooping upside down but Guinness changed the record.

First picking up a hoop at the age of three, China has taken her act all around the world.

Her first appearances were in Ziz Ziz Kaboom Circus and she has performed at her father’s circus, Fred’s Flying Circus, for the last seven years.

She said: “Last week, I was in New York and this weekend I will be in London. Most people from Worthing will know me from Fred’s Flying Circus, where I’ve done hula hooping and other trapeze acts.”

China also runs courses teaching people how to hula hoop. For details, visit www.chichirevolver.com
