Worthing woman preparing showpiece for Hampton Court

GARDEN designer Sara Warren has helped to create a showpiece for the Hampton Court Flower Show 2016.

Sara, from Worthing, recently left Plumpton College, having studied a national diploma in garden design.

“On finishing, a group of us decided to design a garden for RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2016,” she explained.

“This is the first time I have done anything like this and a huge challenge and learning curve.”

The Lavender Garden, designed by Leonie Etherington, Paula Napper, Sara Warren and Donna King, was inspired by the vision of lavenders grown at a dairy farm on the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, and their scent, colour and romance.

“Now for the hard bit,” added Sara. “We are still searching for sponsors but have award-winning Living Landscapes to build our garden.

“We are all very excited and so Hampton Court here we come.”

The show runs from July 5 to 10 and the line-up was revealed on Thursday.

It was Paula who suggested designing a garden for the Royal Horticultural Society show.

Sara said: “The idea was met with complete laughter and ‘oh yeah, that’s going to happen’ but we decided to get together to see what we could come up with as a team.

“A concept was decided and then the pens and pencils started scribbling, the tracing paper piles of rejected drawings got bigger until finally the design was born.”

The garden depicts rows of lavenders in a field and a natural combination of wild planting and trees.

The feeling of walking through the lavender will transport people to a slower, relaxed pace of life.

A circular walk-way leads to an agricultural-style hut selling an assortment of products made from the lavender harvested every summer.

A sunken area directs visitors away from the hut and a curved bench allows people to admire the garden amid the aroma wafting from the rows of lavender.
