Worthing’s developments: See the ongoing projects and how the town could look in the near future

The face of Worthing is ever-changing, with millions of pounds invested over the last few years on residential and commercial developments.

Here is a run down of some of the ongoing developments in the town and a glimpse at how it could look in the future.

Plans to replace the Aquarena in Brighton Road with apartments were approved in January 2017. Demolition began in November that year.
Bayside Apartments will consist of 141 one, two and three bedroom homes and are expected to be finished in 2020.
The vacant Teville Gate was finally demolished in 2018 after a 20-year development saga
Developer Mosaic revealed plans for 378 homes, an 83-bed hotel, gym and supermarket in February this year.
Additional retail space will also be provided, as well as 307 parking spaces and 352 bike parking spots.
Plans to transform the Beales stores in the town centre, which are spread across five buildings, were approved at the end of 2018
45 one, two and three bedroom flats and seven retail spaces are planned, including a £250,000 investment in a smaller Beales store
The demolition of the MGM House offices began in February 2017 to make way for retirement and assisted living flats
The 33-home Triton House was finished in early 2019. The 59-home Neptune House is almost completed.
South Street's Mothercare closed in October 2017. Around a year later, Woolbro Homes announced development plans.
A third storey terrace will be added, making space for eight homes and retail space below.
Worthing Borough Council said it feeds into plans to draw investment and promote town centre living.
In early 2019, the pedestrianisation of Portland Road was announced as part of council plans to make the town centre into a 'leisure hub'
Work should begin in 2020 if approved, to include a continental-style boulevard, art installation and tree-lined walls.
In February, plans to demolish the old Poundland building were approved after the store moved over the road to Poundworld
The plans will see Poundland replaced with 26 new flats and retail space, with no affordable housing.
As with the former Mothercare building, the aim is to draw people into living and investing in the town centre.
Worthing Borough Council bought empty land on the former police station site after frustrations around lack of progress.
Plans were revealed in November 2018 for nearly 200 homes, two cinema screens added to the Connaught theatre and possibly a hotel.
After a long campaign, controversial plans for developing New Monks Farm were approved in October 2018, subject to government approval.
Plans for 600 new homes, plus a new A27 roundabout and other infrastructure, sparked heated debate.
An IKEA was also approved in the plans, with detractors fearing traffic chaos and increased flooding.
