Leader of Worthing Borough Council Paul Yallop said: “We challenged Wilkinson Eyre to design a brave landmark building, which provided both a first-rate sports facility, and a statement of our ambition for Worthing.

“This award shows that challenge was more than met. My thanks go to all of those who made this project happen, and I know this will prove a catalyst for the type of exciting high quality development that we encourage in Worthing, as our town grows from strength to strength.”

Judges praised the building’s use of light in the main pool spaces, while its ‘powerful visual connection’ with the sea also impressed.

Director of Wilkinson-Eyre Chris Wilkinson said: “We are thrilled to have received this award for Splashpoint.

“It’s always pleasing to work on a project that delivers so much benefit to the local community, and a great privilege to design a building that occupies such a wonderful location.”
