Worthing’s winners in Dance World Cup

MORE than 100 students of a Worthing dance school took part in the 2013 Dance World Cup in Brighton.

Glendale Theate Arts School in Penfold Road, Worthing, took 108 students to the final of the competition which took place over the first week of July.

Glendale students won ten gold medals at the contest, as well as four silver and seven bronze, and claimed first, second, and third place in the junior modern quartet.

More than 18,000 youngsters aged between four and 25, from 24 countries around the world fought for a place at this year’s final which was held in England for the first time.

Principal Mandy Chapman said: “I am incredibly proud of the many talented Glendale Theatre Arts pupils that are not only representing the school at the Dance World Cup, but also our town of Worthing and England.

“It is an honour and a fantastic experience for our pupils to be competing at world-class level.”

“The results of the first day saw Team England winning many medals, but I am so proud that Glendale Theatre Arts School did a clean sweep of one class with bronze, silver and gold.”

The Worthing-based school entered 44 competitions including solos, duets, trios, quartets and groups.

Some of the award-winning students will be showcasing their work at Durrington High School on Saturday, July 13.
