Yobs hit scout hut

Vandals have again targeted the Scout hut in North Bersted.

The yobs broke into the Central Drive headquarters of the 11th Bognor Regis Scout group late last Saturday or early on Sunday.

Group Scout leader Paul Summerfield said: 'They have caused considerable damage to the building and also stolen some equipment.'

The property that was stolen included fire extinguishers.

Mr Summerfield urged nearby residents to look out for any of the distinctive items that might have been dumped by the vandals in surrounding streets.

'It is not just the cost of replacing the equipment,' he explained, 'but young people are now using a hall that has no fire fighting equipment until it can be replaced.

'Scout groups receive no funding.

'So, extra unnecessary costs such as these, use money that would be put to better use to improve the programmes for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.'

He added that someone must know who carried out the break-in. He urged them to act responsibly and inform the police or the Scouts the identities of those behind the crime.
