Young people improve school courtyard

A West Sussex County Council group on the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme has been working hard at East Preston Junior School.

The group, made up of 13 young people from Worthing, East Preston, Angmering and Ferring, chose the school for its social action project.

Youth worker Adam Tucknott said: “It has been inspiring working with this great group of young people over the summer.

“They have made a real difference in the school.

“They have challenged themselves throughout and should be very proud of what they have achieved and the impact they have made.”

He said the group, all aged 16, had worked hard over fulfilling the social action element of the programme.

The project, which follows two weeks of residential activities, requires groups to work in their own area over a further two-week period to plan and deliver a significant piece of social action as part of the NCS programme delivered by the council’s Young People’s Service.

Soham Shah, one of the group members, said: “NCS opens you to a world of opportunities, it has been a great summer.”

The Worthing group opted to go in to East Preston Junior School to help regenerate and develop areas of the school’s sensory courtyard to enhance and support learning.

Donations were sought by the group from local businesses and companies.
