Young soccer Santas run in memory of former manager

A TEAM of young footballers held their own Santa dash on Saturday in memory of their former manager.

Worthing Town U15 Red Team players and management ran two laps of Palatine Park, in Palatine Road, Worthing, dressed as Santa raising £1,120 for St Barnabas House Hospice.

Former manager of the team Adam Reid received care from the charity before he died from a brain tumour last Christmas Eve.

Adam’s son, 14-year-old son Ellis Reid, plays in midfield for the team and helped to organise the dash, coming up with the idea when the team were unable to participate in the November Santa Dash for St Barnabas in Littlehampton.

Diana Connors’ son Michael,14, participated in the run.

Diana, 56, of Ripley Road, Worthing, said: “It was really good fun. There were lots of families and lots of people involved.

“It was a lovely sunny morning and Adam’s family were there as well. They were really touched by it and appreciated everybody’s support.

“I was very proud of Michael, Ellis and all the boys.”

The Santa outfits were provided by Diana’s colleagues at the HMRC in Barrington Road, Goring, after they held a Santa day the previous day.
