IT WILL be party time on Sunday, October 25 as the Morrisons Great South Run celebrates 25 years in Portsmouth.
And if you haven’t signed up for Europe’s premier 10-mile event yet, don’t fret – you’ve still got time.
Thousands have already vowed to take on the picturesque course but if you’re not one of them, six weeks is still long enough to prepare.
David Hart at the Great Run Company said: ‘The Morrisons Great South Run is a famously flat course so it is ideal for people who have perhaps left it a bit later than others to sign up.
‘Set your goal according to your current level of fitness, and remember that not everyone runs – thousands of people jog and walk the 10 miles.
‘The course is filled with iconic landmarks, bands on the run, boost zones and thousands of spectators cheering you on, so the most important thing to remember is to go at your own pace and soak up the incredible atmosphere on the day.’
To help with your training, experts at the Great South Run and Great Run Training have devised a set of six-week plans to help you on your way.
These guides for new starters, improvers and challengers will be published in The News tomorrow.
Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said: ‘The training plans are an excellent way to get ready for the Great South Run.
‘For those who are already training, there are tips on how to fine-tune your prepaprations.
‘Just as important, though, is the six-week plan for those who haven’t even started yet.
‘So for anyone thinking about doing the Great South Run in this special 25th year, sign up now and you can get set in time.’
The weekend of events also includes a 5k race and children’s junior and mini runs, which all take place on Saturday, October 24.
