I very much welcome the article in your July 17 edition, concerning hard play area for Heene First School.
The governors see acquisition of extra land as vitally important as the school becomes a primary school.
West Sussex County Council is putting forward some great plans for enabling the school to become a two-form entry primary. They are not yet fully costed, but this will not be a ‘multi-million pound extension project’. It will not be lavish.
The building work will entail the loss of around a quarter of the main playground. The building plans are excellent, but the governors are very concerned about accommodating more children, many of them physically larger, on a smaller playground. That is why we, along with the parents, are eager that West Sussex County Council purchase the Jolly Brewers site.
