I read with interest the letter from Martin Cornford (Herald, July 17), following the excellent proposal by councillor James Doyle for a bandstand at the seafront end of Denton Gardens, Worthing.
I totally agree with Martin’s comments and, as a member of Worthing Silver Band, know that we would also be most interested in playing in our own town.
It is very relaxing to be able to sit in a deckchair and listen to a brass band playing, and yet come and go as you please.
A seaside town should have a suitable bandstand, and many do. There is no shortage of bands in the area who would no doubt be delighted to perform.
Indeed, we have a number of brass bands appearing at our annual Bandathon, in aid of Children in Need, on October 4, at St Paul’s, in Chapel Road, Worthing –- a date for the diary.
I believe that a bandstand with live performances taking place would be a valuable asset for this town.
