Blood service a 24/7 lifeline

In response to Duncan Barkes’ column (Health Service’s Unsung Heroes, Herald, December 20), I would like to clarify to readers an inaccuracy in a comment that was made about blood deliveries.

NHS Blood and Transplant offers a blood delivery service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As well as regular routine deliveries, we also offer hospitals an ad-hoc service when a top-up of blood is needed, along with a “blue light” emergency service when additional blood is needed urgently.
