Boating success

CAN I take this opportunity, through your paper, to thank everyone for making the 2012 WADARS Dragon Boat Festival on July 29, a huge success.

It was wonderful to see so many teams, stallholders and members of the public turn out on a blustery day to watch the racing and enjoy the activities on site.

On behalf of WADARS I would like to especially thank our main sponsors Bowers & Wilkins, Brooklands Park, Worthing and Adur councils, North Barn Kennels, Bailey Scaffolding and Southern Water for their support. I would also like to thank all the volunteers who ran the stalls and made collections for WADARS during the day. I hope that once all the team sponsorship comes in we should raise more than £15,000 for WADARS.

Unfortunately, there was one disappointment in the period leading up to the event. I had two large banners advertising the event vandalised and another two banners removed from fencing in Western Road.

This has cost WADARS more than £700 to replace and eats into our profit from the event which would have been used to carry out animal rescues and rehoming. If anyone has found the missing banners or knows who carried out this mindless vandalism, please let me or the police know.

Once again, thank you to everyone who supported our event and we are all looking forward to the Dragon Boat Festival 2013.
