The plan to build a 21-storey tower on Worthing seafront is a brilliant idea. Towns need focal points. Just look at what the Spinnaker Tower has done for Portsmouth.
Far from 21 stories being too tall, I would suggest, wearing my Naval Architect hat, that it could be even taller. But make it an essential part of the planning permission to create a public space at the top of the building – a combination of a public viewing platform and a restaurant/bar with a view.
That would be an additional benefit to the community and provide that all important ‘destination’ for visitors.
