Case for exemption

LANCE Ritchie asked for OAPs’ opinions, should pensioners be exempt from paying income tax on their pensions in retirement?

Well, as a pensioner myself, I think there could be a case for some exemptions from paying income taxes if a worker had laboured for 50 years in a difficult, hard, dangerous, occupation such as industry. (such as engineering, construction or the fishing industry).

However, If someone had spent 50 years sitting on their backside in a comfortable office job, and raised a family with the state providing their children’s education, plus had extra benefits (family allowance) and enjoyed tax relief on a mortgage, then in my opinion, I’m sorry, but NO WAY!
