Dog ban is needless

I WAS saddened to read in the Herald and to hear from friends about the proposals to ban dogs, or restrict them from off-lead exercise, in many areas of Worthing, particularly Brooklands lake and surrounding area.

I protest most strongly against this happening, as I am a responsible dog owner of many years and have lived in the area for most of my life, enjoying the open spaces with others – not just dog owners.

These open spaces, owned by Worthing Borough Council, are for the use of everyone and this has been happening for many years, without too many problems.

Many dog owners can, and do, police themselves by encouraging good behaviour and picking up dog faeces. The bins provided are excellent and the greens, 99 per cent of the time, are clean and not fouled.

The café and other amenities at Brooklands are very well run, with happy and welcoming staff. I am sure they will lose a lot of trade if the dog owners are discouraged from visiting.

Dogs, and owners, need proper exercise and fresh air. Please do not inhibit this.
