Hall responsibility

WHY can this town not get its act together?

The council’s primary concern, apparently, is to be seen to be “fair” in its decision on the disposal of the Assembly Hall (pressure from property developers?).

The only “fair” way is what is best for the town and the large community which it serves.

The presence of the organ is similar to many halls and old cinemas across the country; an example is the Guildhall Portsmouth, where, it has been recently announced, a trust is to take over from the council and plans to make improvements, not vandalise the facilities.

A similar plan is in operation in Bristol.

Every effort should be made to find a solution which ensures the future of the hall – I am sure in the right hands, without the burden of excessive council overheads and costs, it would be a successful venue.
