Although the Leave campaigners have gone to great lengths to portray themselves as the people’s champions of the NHS, this is nothing more than hot air.
The main question worth asking is how is it possible that these Brexiteers are now fully committed to a public funded health service, having for years pushed for further and further privatisation.
We have heard from Michael Gove that the NHS is “no longer relevant” in the 21st century and from Tory MEP, Daniel Hannan, that we should be denationalising healthcare.
The head of the NHS has made it very clear that we should not be fooled by their empty promises, saying that, leaving the EU would endanger the NHS.
Simon Stevens has argued that as the functioning of the NHS depends primarily on a strong economy, the economic shock and black hole in public finances predicted by international experts if we leave would put serious additional strain on the NHS.
It’s high time the Out campaign admitted the only way to ensure we have enough money for the NHS is to vote remain on June 23.
