THE problems faced by my sister Caroline and her critically ill husband Brian, stranded in Tenerife, must provide a salutatory lesson to all of us (Herald story, July 19).
Don’t think a holiday insurance policy will cover you if you don’t tell them everything that is wrong with you.
Brian has suffered from a chronic condition for a number of years but did not think it necessary to inform the insurance company.
Had he done so, it would have cost him more to insure, but in retrospect it would have saved both him and Caroline many thousands of euros.
The lesson is ALWAYS tell the insurance company about any treatment or medication you are taking, because if you become ill abroad they will find out and if you haven’t been “up front” with them, they won’t cover you.
