In your report Cuts have hit the vulnerable (October 11), you refer to councillor Pete Bradbury’s remark about the statistics of a survey among disabled people. He implied that as only 74 of 1,000 people invited to comment had done so, the other 926 did not feel it worth commenting. In the county council discussion there was ample evidence of why people had not commented – many lacked the confidence to do so without the support of advocacy, or were scared to criticise because they feared losing their already-reduced funding. Besides, it is nonsense to make assumptions about the views of people who did not comment. Nobody has actually stated they welcome the social care cuts, but I bet councillor Bradbury doesn’t assume this means every single West Sussex resident is opposed to them.
