This is by way of a reply and a thank-you for the wonderful article in The Herald on August 7 entitled ‘Two dedicated staff retire after 70 years’.
Both the legendary Ken Chapman and I have had the pleasure of seeing old boys return with their own sons to enjoy the family feel of St Andrew’s.
I have met and got to know some really lovely members of staff, parents and pupils, although I always found the boys who erred on the naughty side more appealing.
I enjoyed every minute at St Andrew’s and would like to thank all past and present head teachers and staff for making my 31 years so memorable. Special thanks to Steve Mercer for his kind words, and to Victoria Purcell and Maria Stewart for organising such a wonderful finale to my time at school.
Many thanks also to everyone for the fabulous gifts, garden chair, barbecue, wine, flowers, cards and the guest book which I will treasure.
And what about those t-shirts worn by staff on the last day of term with pictures of Ken and I smiling back at ourselves?
I take the opportunity now to wish Steve Mercer, the senior leadership team, all staff, teaching and admin staff good luck for a happy and successful new school year. I was so pleased the exam results were so much improved. Thanks for the memories.
