I write in reply to the letter from Cllr Hazel Thorpe. While criticising the work I am doing within the community, Cllr Thorpe says she believes I am a member of the Licensing Committee.
I feel compelled to set the record straight. I have never been a member of that committee because I am employed within the licensing trade.
It is shocking to learn that one of our longest-serving councillors, who only last year sat in two formal meetings which decided who would sit on which council committees, does not know which committees I am appointed to.
Cllr Thorpe correctly says I am supporting a campaign to reduce the impacts of street drinkers on the residents I represent. That is because people come to me on a regular basis complaining that they have had enough of a few individuals who are regularly seen fighting, shouting, swearing and performing their bodily functions in public places.
We are told that on average these individuals have been arrested more than 50 times. Therefore, I believe Cllr Thorpe is rather naive to think they will read her letter in last week’s paper and call the helpline she promotes.
I joined the council to promote Worthing and improve the lives of those that live here. Let’s pull together for the benefit of the community.
