WITH reference to the “Buggies aren’t cars” letter from last week.
My wife uses a class three mobility scooter (there are three classes) which is fully road legal with excise tax, number plates, insurance and cabable of the heady speed of 8mph on the road, switchable to 4mph for pavement use.
Class-three scooters are able to use single and dual carriageways, with the exception that the speed limit of the road does not exceed 50mph. If it is unrestricted, above 50mph, the scooter must have a flashing yellow beacon.
All of the information is contained in the highway code. It’s rather a shame that quite a few car drivers are unaware of this publication, or have forgotten what is in it.
