Scanner success

Mr John Still asked what happened to the CT scanner appeal started five years ago.

The funds raised by the League of Friends paid for a Toshiba Aquilion 1 state-of-the-art CT scanner which was up and running in Worthing Hospital in June, 2013, and is scanning approximately 6,500 patients a year.

The Aquilion 1 can be used as a general scanner but is also ideal for cardiac scanning.

It can scan a whole heart in 0.35 seconds, greatly reducing the effect of movement on the images. Currently, approximately 15 cardiac patients are scanned a week.

The Herald did cover the arrival of the scanner in June, 2013.
