Tarring history

Much has been recorded about Worthing history, but I find not the nearby village of Tarring.

I moved into number 19 with my parents in 1937. We had a small sty with a coal room at the rear. The living room had a marble fireplace and the walls were oak-panelled.

Behind the house was a thatched barn with an old black oven that was heated underneath with wood. Outside the kitchen was a well, completed with a hand pump. The barn was thatched in 1938 with a view to opening up an old tearoom. A flint wall surrounded the place.

Number 19 is now split into two houses, with two bungalows at the rear where the barn was.
