I was absolutely horrified to hear that the Tourist Information Centre is to be closed. This should not be allowed to happen.
Apparently, tourism trade is worth £135million per year to Worthing, with more than three million day visitors and 280,00 overnight visitors. More than 2,300 people used the centre last year.
If I am away for a weekend break in a town that I do not know, my first point of call is the Tourist Information Centre. I am sure that others do likewise.
If a visitor approached me in the town and asked directions to tourist information, I would be highly embarrassed to tell them Worthing does not have one!
How many south coast towns do not have centres? Is Worthing trying to be unique?
Surely if lack of money is the reason for the closure, there would be enough volunteers to keep a centre running. Do we really want Worthing and its council to become a laughing stock?
We are certainly heading in that direction!
