Tragedy strikes chord

THE tragic death of a beautiful young London Marathon runner has struck a chord in the British psyche and spirit.

Claire Squires died whilst unselfishly doing her bit for others; for something she believed in. She was raising funds for Samaritans for family reasons, in memory of her brother who died 10 years ago, and because her mother is a Samaritans volunteer.

The generosity of the public has been staggering and will help ensure that Samaritans can continue to offer non-judgemental confidential emotional support to people in despair, distress or with suicidal thoughts.

If you have been affected by this awful event and need to talk about how it’s making you feel, call Worthing Samaritans on 01903 205555 or email We are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to listen and support you as you talk things through.
