Weather effects

It has been fascinating over the last couple of weeks to see how the strong winds and rough seas have transformed the beach below the high water mark.

What used to be smooth sand has become covered in large rocks and pebbles, presumably washed up from the seabed out to sea, as they are a completely different composition from the normal beach pebbles.

Does anyone know where they have come from?

They appear to be mostly chalk or flint, but does anyone know what the black ones are? They are quite light in weight, but a very dark, dull black and break up relatively easily – my dog breaks them with her teeth!

I’ve tried to find out what they are, but no luck so far.
