I agree wholeheartedly with Paul O’Brien that Worthing’s unique selling point is it’s seafront, or at least it should be! Paul raises the issue of parking to the east of the pier which has risen significantly over the past three years.
I hope Paul’s column will act as a wake-up call to both councillors and council officers!
Currently our promenade looks more like a car park than a pleasant place for a stroll – surely not the impression Worthing wants to give to all the visitors arriving by bus or coach.
I do have a vested interest in this, being one of the ‘small traders on the seafront’ Paul refers to!
I have communicated with a number of councillors and council officers about this.
Most have agreed that the situation is unacceptable and have assured me that reviews will happen, followed by change – yet nothing.
So my question is, who is responsible for allowing the increasing amount of car parking and who is blocking attempts to reduce it?
Perhaps the Herald may be able to elicit an answer.
