Youth footy team raising vital funds

Mum, Nicole McCallum, 40, of Whylands Avenue, Worthing, set up the boys’ JustGiving page, and said the coaches are trained in CPR but ‘this only gives a two to five per cent chance of survival, if a child or adult was to have a cardiac arrest – and if a defibrillator is used within three minutes, the chance of survival goes up to 75 per cent’.

Ferring Youth Atoms coach, Richard Hack, said he sees a defibrillator as ‘an expensive insurance policy that may never be used but there is always the what if’.

He added: “On any football Sunday, I am with 14 boys I deeply care about, plus five other coaches and the boys’ families and if this expensive piece of life-saving equipment means we have a good chance, then we should get one”.

Defibshop, a supplier of defibrillators (AEDs), report on their website that 270 children die per year after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at school.
