Aidan continues his winning form

Aidan Hills continued his winning form in the latest round of the Swift Rallycross Championship at Pembrey circuit

The Worthing-based driver won the A-final in the latest round at the Pembrey circuit in Wales.

Overnight rain cleared just in time for free practice and developed into bright and breezy conditions for the remainder of the day. In-form Hills was looking to continue his winning streak.

He was fast from the get go and put in the quickest time in heat one and was then third in both the second and third heats, which gave him a share of the front row for the A-final.

Hills made the best start and got the jump on pole sitter and championship leader Tristan Ovenden. They were then door to door through the first corner.

It was Hills that kept it flat and edged ahead into the first section of loose. He then led the race all the way to the flag, managing to put enough space between himself and the rest of the field to take his joker lap and still come out in front, while recording the fastest lap time of the day in the process.

Hills said: “Wow, what a day. I really seemed to struggle in the heats and I was really unhappy with the car.

“After looking, we saw that the sub-frame was damaged which had pushed the wheel back.

“We managed to straighten it and get it perfect for the final. I then worked really hard to pull a bit of a gap and when I came to do my joker I came out just in front of the others, leaving me two laps to keep it tidy and come home to take the win.

“I’m absolutely over the moon. I didn’t expect to win after the poor pace in the heats but a big thanks to my dad for his work to get the car bang on for the final.”

In the previous round, Hills had won one race – his first senior win – and finished second in another at the two-day event in Mondello Park, Ireland.

Round seven, where championships could be won, takes place at Lydden Hill in Kent on August 31.
